Lifestyle SOE

The School of Evangelism dates are still to be announced.
 (Certificate IV in Evangelism 51474)

From the beginning stages of YWAM Gold Coast, God spoke about establishing a base focused on evangelism, one of the three main emphases of YWAM International. We are excited about running a School of Evangelism as part of fulfilling this vision.

We see the SOE as a significant part of ongoing evangelism that takes place here on the Gold Coast. The school will be involved in existing evangelism opportunities such as:

  • Schoolies
  • Indy Car
  • Feeding program for homeless/needy
  • Coffee van
  • Beach sports
  • School programs

We are looking forward to seeing new initiatives and ministries pioneered out of the passions and gifts of those involved during the course of the school.

Our SOE will run over 9 months with mixed lectures and outreach, both local and overseas and is open to anyone who has successfully completed a DTS. This time will provide a great opportunity for a diverse range of evangelistic experiences from one on one friendship evangelism to events reaching thousands. Part of this training in lifestyle evangelism will include discovering God’s heart for the lost and encountering the power of God through worship and intercession.

Our passion is to see everyone living a lifestyle of evangelism, trained and equipped to affect their sphere of influence to fulfill their part in the Great Commission.

SOE Purpose

The aim of the SOE is to impart the values of YWAM and provide students with an understanding of the biblical and practical requirements of the evangelistic messenger. The SOE gives students a comprehensive understanding of the gospel message and the difference between other religions and cults; providing students with an understanding of the main forms and models of evangelism and giving opportunities to put into practice what they have learned.

Topics covered during the SOE:

Express God’s heart for humankind in personal lifestyle

In communicating a message, the life of the messenger must be consistent with the meaning of the message. Someone involved in evangelism must be doing it with the same motives as God, the same compassion that God shows in His desire to reach out. The messenger should also be demonstrating their own commitment to living out the message in their lifestyle. This unit is therefore foundational to all other units of the qualification.

Develop a plan and prepare for evangelism for a specific context

Before conducting evangelism, the evangelist must consider the context in which the evangelism will take place and then plan the most appropriate strategy, choose the most appropriate methods and tools and then prepare those. They must also be involved in the preparation of themselves and/or others in a team so that they are equipped and practised in the methods and tools used.

Participate in evangelism for a specific context

Evangelism may take place in a variety of contexts and with people from many nations, cultures, beliefs systems, etc. This in itself presents many challenges for communication but there are further challenges in terms of responding to the unpredictable and adapting the plan to meet the situation as it arises. Therefore, it is important that the evangelist gain considerable experience in, and is able to demonstrate competency in, the presentation of the gospel in unfamiliar contexts.
