Discipleship Training School Course Description
(Certificate III in Discipleship 51825)

The Discipleship Training School (DTS) is an intensive Christian training course beginning with an 11-12 week lecture/teaching phase followed by a practical field assignment. The purpose of the DTS is to encourage students in personal character development cultivated from a living relationship with God while identifying their  unique individual gifts and callings in God. Cross-cultural exposure and global awareness are special emphases throughout the course, preparing the students to reach current and future generations and answer the call to "Go into all the world and disciple all nations" Matthew 28:19.

Discipleship Training School Lecture Phase

The Lecture Phase is a time set apart for students to get to know God. Speakers are brought in from the local community and from around the world to teach on topics like Forgiveness, Hearing God’s voice, Recognizing Jesus as Lord, Relationships, and Evangelism.
Besides lectures throughout the week, there will also be intercession and prayer for the nations, worship, morning devotions, small group gatherings, work duties, and some sports.

There may be times set aside for additional lectures, personal studies, and some outreach in the community. Weekends are normally free except for some duties and possible outreach preparation and planning.

Discipleship Training School Field Assignment

The second phase of the DTS sends out specially organized teams for 8-12 weeks of evangelism in cross-cultural situations. The emphasis is on the application of principles taught in the DTS lecture phase coupled with teaching on evangelism concepts and practices equipping students to share their faith using a variety of means.

Teams will be working in Australia and abroad, having the opportunity to experience first hand God working through them and giving them a glimpse of missions. Not everyone is an evangelist, but we are to do the work of an evangelist, which essentially means sharing our faith with someone else. Some examples of outreach opportunities are Coffee bar ministry, door-to-door visits, drama, music, church work, working with children or the elderly, literature distribution, open airs, sporting events, mercy ministry, building etc.

Our campus outreach location is focused on Indonesia.  We are committed to working with YWAM Indonesia over the next five years to see the work of God flourish in this area.  We will be sending a DTS team to another location also, which is yet to be finalised.  In the past, we have sent teams to Mozambique, South Africa, Israel, Thailand, Taiwan, China, India, Nepal and Fiji.
